I met a shepherd in September who is very committed to breeding small fine fleeced Shetlands. We visited his farm and I very nearly bought 3 ram lambs on the spot. Then reason prevailed that I wouldn't be able to convince the county/city government that they were actually canines. So I bought fleece instead. *GRIN*
So far I have washed 2 fleeces and have spun about a third of that fiber. Oh my is this stuff fine and soft. It's single coated and there's no guard hair at all and really a delight to spin. I've been carding it on the drum carder and spinning from that roving. The yarn you see here is 3 ply and worsted weight, and super lofty and elastic. The plan is to knit a matching hat and scarf set for the shepherd, Garrett Ramsay. Google Ramsay Farms, he has lots of great info on his sites about his sheep and other critters.
