There's about 3 weeks left til Christmas, and I am starting to get nervous. One week ago I had plans for only one knitted gift, the mittens for my mother. And then while sitting around the table at Thanksgiving and letting my mind wander I was struck by the fantastic idea to knit and felt and custom dye and embellish via needle felting a pair of slippers for my MIL. Oh, and might as well do a pair for my FIL, minus the needle felting. And what about my own dad? His feet surely could use some woolly insulation, right?
So far I have the lining for one mitten finished. It's a little goofy in the thumb and a bit long but I'm not worrying about it. I hope to get the second lining cast on tonight. The lining yarn is some Italian kid mohair and silk yarn, basically like Rowan KidSilk but about $8 cheaper when I bought it a couple years ago. The mitten is Telemark from Knitpicks, and without the lining the mitts are cozy, but oh my, with the lining these are really quite warm.
And lastnight I started the felted clog slippers for MIL. At first I was planning to dye the yarn then knit it, but this way I won't need to worry about not having enough dyed yarn for the project. ok, now I have just 5.80 more of these things to knit in 3 weeks. No need to panic, right? Right!?!
And now for something completely different: Spinning. It's about 4 oz of Superfine Merino painted by me into some very non-winterly colors. I don't know what will be done with this yarn just yet, let's all be surprised together, hm?
